Abstract English

Brucellosis has been found to be a common cause of pyrexia of unknown origin and joint pain in Saudi Arabian. A series of 11 children, all of whom lived in Al Kharj, a small town 72 km south of Riyadh, were found to have brucellosis. Their clinical presentation and clinical pathological findings are discussed. Brucellosis should be considered in all children presenting with pyrexia, lassitude and joint pains, together with a relatively low with count and undulant fever. Treatment with a combination of rifampicin and septrin was effective in all case. The paper highlights the importance of brucellosis as a diagnostic entity in Saudi Arabia and emphasizes the need for public health measures to prevent this condition
