Three hundred and sixty patients with different meniscal lesions were submitted to arthroscopic meniscectomy. The procedures were done under local and general anesthesia with and without tourniquet. Double or triple puncture techniques were used. The goal of arthroscopic meniscectomy was to remove torn meniscal fragments with pathological mobility leaving an intact stable rim. The best results were obtained in vertical longitudinal tears unassociated with other lesions. The procedure is effective and safe but its major disadvantage is that it needs skill and experience
