This study reflects the personal experience of the author in laparoscopic surgery for /1.5/years after the admission of this kind of surgery in Aleppo University Hospital in 1996. The files of /110/ patients were retrospectively evaluated. The age of patients ranged between /2.5/ and 65/ years old ; most of them were in the 3rd and 4th decades, with female dominance [85.45%] of patients. Laparoscopic procedures included: /100/ laparoscopic cholecystectomy [Lap-Cho le] and /10/ diagnostic laparoscopy for different purposes. All patients underwent abdominal ultrasonography and liver function test [L. F. T.] . Blind veress needle insertion is still adopted in our Department with no problems. Conversion to open cholecystectomy was done in only [3%] of lap-chole cases which confirms the improvement of the surgeon’s skills. There is no history of remaining stones in this study, because of the good selection of patients pre-operative [ERCP] which is essential in the case of elevated [L. F. T.] . Complications were minor, no common bile duct injury [C. B. D.] , or any intra-abdominal collection, no death was reported. Laparoscopy also was useful in the other /10/ cases as well as a diagnostic and a therapeutic method. In conclusion this study shows the safety and· the efficacity of laparoscopic surgery in the management of different diseases. The comparison of the recent and the previous results confirms the improvement of the laparoscopic surgery through its good results with the reduction in complications rate as surgeons gained more experience
