of the importance of adolescence as the critical decade of human life linking childhood and adulthood and marked by adolescents' ulnerability to the biological and psychosocial changes that they undergo; Believing in the importance of this phase of life in the establishment of lifestyles; 1. COMMENDS the steps already taken by the Regional Director in assisting the Member States. through intercountry technical meetings on adolescent health; 2. URGES Member States to: 2.1 Orient decision-makers to the physical, psychological, intellectual and social health needs of adolescents; 2.2 Ensure collaboration of the health, education, information, social affairs and religious affairs sectors in raising public awareness of these needs; 2.3 Collect information and conduct studies and research on the health status of adolescents, including reproductive health, and on their dietary habits, and health-related behavioural patterns to enable the development of relevant corrective measures through education; 2.4 Implement, through all available approaches, including the school health curriculum, health education programmes for adolescents within the framework of the religious and cultural values of the community and suitable to each age group of adolescence, and involve, as much as possible, adolescents in the preparation of educational programmes and information messages addressed to them; 2.5 Strengthen school health curricula and maternal and child health programmes to ensure response to the special needs of both male and female adolescents; 3. REQUESTS the Regional Director to continue his support to and collaboration with Member States in developing and strengthening the health of adolescents, within the framework of the religious and cultural values of the community.
