in the Region; and Noting the recent developments in the management of leprosy patients, particularly in connexion with the new emphasis on their ambulatory treatment and modified segregation of infectious cases, 1. URGES health administrations, in countries where leprosy is a public health problem, to conduct country-wide surveys to estimate the magnitude of the problem and evaluate present anti-leprosy measures; 2. RECOMMENDS the implementation by governments, with international assistance, of active country-wide programmes to promote anti-leprosy services; 3. REQUESTS the Regional Director to arrange for attendance of participants from countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region at future conferences to be convened by the Organization concerning leprosy; and 4. RECOMMENDS that the Regional Director initiate measures for training health staff for leprosy control programmes.
