In this investigation antimicrobial, antitumour, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activities of alcoholic and chloroformic extracts of underground parts of Cynanchum acutum L. plant were studied.
The alcoholic and chloroformic extracts of the tested plant in a concentration of 5% inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli, salmonella typhi and brucella abortus. Both extracts in concentrations of 20 and 10% respectively inhibited the growth of streptococcus pyogenes. Trichophyton gate penicillium notatum showed sensitivity to both extracts in a concentration of 10% microsporum canis and aspergillus niger were affected only by alcoholic extract of the plant at a oncentation of 5%. The tested extracts were active against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in vitro. Both extracts had no antipyretic activity whereas they had anti-inflammatory effect on formalin induced inflammation
