A cross - sectional study was conducted to determine whether two weeks treatment with Omeprazolc and Doxycycline is sufficient to eradicate Helicobacter pylori in patients with acid peptic disease.
Fifty patients with acid peptic disease with H. pylori verified endoscopically were included in this study. Patients were divided into two groups. Group A: 20 patients were given Omeprazole 20 mg once daily for 2 weeks Group B: 30 patients were given Omeprazole 20 mg once daily and Doxycycline 100 mg once daily for 2 weeks. Second endoscopy was done after 14 days of treatment. Final endoscopy was done four weeks after cessation of treatment. Eradication of H. pylori was obtained in 56.6% of patients when both drugs were given in combination compared with 30% of patients with Omeprazole alone
