Objectives: This prospective study aimed to compare and to analyze the type of referral. condition of patients on arrival. complications of angioaccess and the death within 3-years of admission
of both early and late referred haemodialyzed CRF groups Methodology: One hundred and seventeen CRF patients attended the HD center-Aden, from 1st January 1998 to 31st December 2000 for HD treatment.
Results: The results revealed that, only 20.5% of the CRF patients were referred to the Centre for treatment at early stage after diagnosis. Anemia and arterial hypertension as a complication were observed among the majority of late referred patients compared to early refer group [66.0% and 25.0% respectively] . Left ventricular dysfunction with fluid overload, cerebral function depression, and acidotic respiration were seen only in the late group. Subclavian vein catheterization of the late group was associated with complications in about 28% while the complications AVF presented only in 4.3%. The death within 3 years of admission in late and early referral groups was 57 % and 12% respectively, P < 0.001 Conclusions: It concluded that the increased number of late referred CRF patients to Aden HD center, their complications, and the subclavian angioaccess had been shown to be associated with increase death among CRF patients on HD therapy. It is stressed that CRF patients should be referred immediately after diagnosis to nephrolagist
