We present our clinical experience with 450 lCSl cycles that were done between January 1999 to December 2001. The indications were severe male factor infertility or failure of previous IVF trial.
The procedure entailed: ovulation induction, oocyte-pick-up, sperm retrieval, intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection, intra-uterine embryo transfer and monitoring of pregnancy. A total of 450 lCSl cycles in 420 infertile couples were performed.2528 oocytes were retrieved, 2131 were fertilized [84.4%] . Up to 3 embryos were transferred into the uterus in each cycle. The procedure resulted in 180 clinical pregnancies [40%] proved biochemically and then by ultrasound examination.142 cases [31.5%] delivered, 22 cases [4.9%] aborted and 16 cases [3.6%] were on going pregnancies. We believe that lCSl is a reliable and successful procedure in managing infertile couples due to severe male factor. The results were not significantly related to semen parameters except in cycles with abnormal sperm morphology. lCSl = Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection
